Elementary school was a difficult time for me — and not just because full days at school meant I didn’t get to nap anymore (naps are wonderful, OK?). A big problem I ran into with the schooling part of school was the repetition.<\/p>\n
I can do certain kinds of repetition. I can spend most of a day with the same album on repeat, when it’s called for (sometimes, but more rarely, even a single song for a couple of hours). Eggs + rice or toast as a meal could happen every day of my life (it pretty much does) and I would never tire of it. I’m not sure how many times I’ve read Jane Eyre. But other kinds of repetition will drive me to distraction. Most foods will elicit a gag-reflex if I eat them too many days in a row, no matter how delicious they are. Authors employing too much of the wrong sort of repetition will make me rage-quit their books. Some songs are skipped. And then there’s elementary school…<\/p>\n
(Anyhow, I should get myself back on track with this self-analysis before I veer off into childhood social issues and that time the Powers That Be at school were convinced I was autistic. I’ll save that for another day, perhaps.)*<\/p>\n
